The Thai language is the native tongue of Thailand's largest ethnic group, the Thai people, and in total is spoken between approximately 60 and 65 million people. Thai is also is the official language of the nation of Thailand, and as well as in Thailand itself, there are are also native Thai speakers in some parts of Cambodia and Northern Malaysia. If you are planning on visiting Thailand, perhaps for a vacation, but especially if you plan to do so for business, you might want to consider learning the Thai language. For vacation trips, learning the language will allow you to enjoy and appreciate Thai culture more, but in the case of business, you may well find that fluency in Thai, and the ability to speak to natives in their own language, can be a significant advantage. Additionally, there are no doubt people of Thai descent who have grown overseas or in the West, and who are perhaps not as fluent in the Thai language as they might wish - if you are such person, you may wish to consider studying Thai, for example if you want to communicate better with relatives. The Thai language is often considered one of the more difficult languages to learn, especially for people who don't already know a related language. That reputation however shouldn't deter you, as there are many tools and resources available that can make learning Thai easier than it used to be the past.
